Atom Smasher Oak Aged Oktoberfest Style Lager by Two Brothers Artisan Brewing is one of the smoothest and yet still one of the best Oktoberfest beers of the fall season. Two Brothers Artisan Brewing make some amazingly smooth and delicious brews but when I read that Atom Smasher Oak Aged Oktoberfest was 7.7% ABV I was floored as this amazing craft beer drinks like it is in the low 4% ABV area. Atom Smasher Oak Aged Oktoberfest Style Lager by Two Brothers Artisan Brewing is the only oak aged Oktoberfest styles I’ve seen this year and although I feel the wood age is somewhat overdone by many brewers this one seems like it was soaked in oak just enough to smooth out the flavors nicely with nice aromas of mildly sweet caramel and biscuit malts while the first sips are nice hints of toasted malts, hints of oak with just the right amount of toffee, hops and hints of earthy spices. This amazing Oktoberfest pours a rich amber color with a nice lacey head but at 7.7% ABv and 22.6 IBU this one can easily creep up on you as as it is simply one of the smoothest Oktoberfest brews of this fall season with subtle but complex flavors.
Hop Harvest Oktoberfest by Peak Organic Brewing Company hands down is the best Oktoberfest craft beer I’ve had all season so far, it is simply amazing with lots of great flavor and amazing complexity. As you can see the pour is perfect with a nice 1 inch off white head and a deep golden amber color with an amazing aroma with mild earthy smells including toasty caramel, subtle toasty bread notes and hops with the hints of citrus. Hop Harvest Oktoberfest by Peak Organic Brewing Company’s tastes exactly as it smells with smooth caramel malts, mild biscuit malts, earthy notes with surprisingly spicy hops and hints of pine resin and grapefruit. with a crisp finish. Shockingly this bold flavor filled Oktoberfest brew is very sessionable at only 4.9% ABV with tons of complex smooth flavors. If you are looking to try an Oktoberfest this is one you must try for the fall season as this is one of the most amazing Oktoberfest craft beers of the year.
There are a lot of Pumpkin ales being released this year with a few great ones, a lot of nice ones and a ton of o.k. to below average ones. With that said I was extremely exited after my first sip of Punk’n Harvest Pumpkin Ale by Uinta Brewing as this is the closest Pumpkin Ale to true pumpkin pie, with no exaggeration this amazing Punk’n harvest pumpkin ale is just like drinking real pumpkin pie from fresh harvested pumpkins. I’ve been a big fan of Uinta craft ales shortly after discovering them in North Florida well over a year ago so it is always a great thing when a quality brewer amazes you with yet another greatly crafted quality brew. Punk’n Harvest Pumpkin Ale by Uinta Brewing should be on the top of your list for pumpkin ales to try before the season is over, which I will agree it seems the season came very early this year. Punk’n Harvest Pumpkin Ale by Uinta Brewing is an extremely easy drinking ale at only 5% ABV and 10 IBU allows the roasted pumpkin and spices of the season with hints of vanilla and honey to shine through. Not 100% sure of all the flavors but roasted pumpkin is the main flavor with a bit of vanilla, honey, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and nutmeg as if you were eating a slice of some of the best fresh pumpkin pie with every sip.
Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA by Green Flash Brewing Company pours a beautiful rich red with aromatic aromas from the rye, Mosaic and Amarillo hops used in the dry-hopping rush forward as you continue to pour this amazing imperial rye IPA. Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA by Green Flash Brewing Company is packed with spicy rye and crystal malts, Columbus, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops giving this full mouthfeel imperial rye IPA a mountain of great spicy flavors from hints of pine resin, peppercorns, caramel malts, grapefruit and rye. This bold Imperial Rye IPA by Green Flash Brewing Company weights in at 9% ABV and 80 on the IBU scale. If you love a great rye IPA with a lot of kick you must check this one out as it is only available May through August and with September just starting there may not be a lot of these left on the shelf but its worth every sip.
Citra Dog American IPA by Thirsty Dog Brewing is the true definition of an American IPA with light translucent cooper color with a modest head. This American IPA is sporting an IBU of 95 and a solid 6.5% ABV with loads of amazing flavors from the citra hops. Citra Dog American IPA by Thirsty Dog Brewing comes across as a very mild looking brew with little to no noticeable aroma but with the first sip you get a nice moderate mouthfeel with an juicy smooth malt with a bold bitterness and mild bit that has hints of floral and citrus leaning towards a bit of grapefruit and a subtle pine towards the end of the sip. I was concerned when I first saw a few of the Thirsty Dog Brewing 6 packs locally available as the label looked very trendy and I was concerned they were trying to compensate for the brew but after buying a 6 pack and as this is the last of the 6 I have been pleasantly surprised with an impressive American IPA that I would be proud to share with friends.
