Sadly this beautiful craft brew from Founders isn’t available in bottle or can any longer as I was told by a Founder’s rep that they had problems with shelf life over 90 days. This may sound bad but I can appreciate any craft brewer that is devoted to the quality of their product after it is already on the shelf. My local World of Beer tapped a keg of Foudner’s Red Rye IPA and I just had to zip on over to try a pint even on 4th of July. I was not disappointed, as it was an amazing rye with pleasant citrusy grapefruit aroma and a crisp rye with amazing caramel notes with just the right amount of sweetness with every sip. If I could buy this by the keg I would without hesitation as this an amazing rye IPA that you just want to share with friends, it is just that good! If you drink IPA or Pale ales and haven’t tried one with rye added you are seriously missing out. This beautiful red rye IPA from Founders comes in at 6.6% ABV with an IBU of 70 and a “RateBeer” of 99! If you ever see a Red Rye IPA by Founders Brewing company at your local pub, just sit back and enjoy.
All Day IPA Session Ale by Founders Brewing comes in a 15 pack of cans which is a great value and a novel concept. This sessionable IPA at 4.7% ABV has a deep amber color with a mild to medium carbonation with a ton of hoppy flavors including a major grassy smell and flavor on the initial sip. When you think grass, you really don’t think good but the flavors seem to work really well together to give this mild IPA a lot of hop forward flavors and a nice punch overall. I see this as a little brother of Founder’s Centennial IPA which is an amazing beer with a great malt backbone. Founder’s never fails to impress with major flavors that seem to be perfectly balanced between the malts and the hops. For a great session craft brew at a great price, grab a 15 pack and share with friends.
KBS 2015 Kentucky Breakfast Stout by Founders Brewing Company is such an amazing beer if you can even call it that, that I had to enjoy it like a frosty desert with its amazing bourbon and coffee flavors. The bourbon and coffee are very smooth even with all of the flavors of the smooth oak aged bourbon hitting you at once with such a high ABV of 11.2% yet finishing with a rich dark bourbon taste with hints of vanilla, brown sugar and raisin on top of a rich chocolate blend and still finishing with that bourbon coffee finish. Warning this is strong and you if you love stouts, chocolate and some of the best bourbon you’ve ever tasted this is the beer for you. Sadly this is a rare white rabbit but it is truly worth the hunt and and can be caught as Founders has increased their output of this beautiful beer from the original 24 bourbon barrels back in early 2000 to around 4,700 bourbon barrels for their 2015 release. Keep in mind Founders KBS, Kentucky Breakfast Stout has been aged just over 12 months in a bourbon barrel so just imagine having the best Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout you could humanly imagine and then dropping a shot of the absolute best Kentucky Bourbon into the mix and that will bring you one step closer to imagining this amazing beer or desert based on how you look at it or should we say, enjoy it. If you find a friend willing to share a Founders KBS 2015 Kentucky Breakfast Stout, thank them and then ask for a ride home as this 12 ounce bottle has some serious kick.
