Hibiscus Gose by Boulevard Brewing company pours a deep cooper color with a subtle hint of pink blended in, most likely from fresh hibiscus flower which is perfectly edible and also makes a very nice tea that tastes a lot like a sweet tart candy. Nice mild head and mild aroma but hard to put my finger on the exact smell although it could be a hint of tartness with a mild saltiness. I was excited to try this as I am a big fan of the hibiscus flower and regularly drink teas with hibiscus in them but sadly this is a bit more of a slightly sour and tart beer with a hint of vinegar a lot like an off kombucha tea with a subtle hint of salt, not bad but far from what I was expecting. Hibiscus Gose by Boulevard Brewing company comes in at a modest 4.2% ABV Gose style and only 11 IBU it is a mild session beer for the Summer months for those who prefer a more sour/tart type of beverage but don’t mind the hint of vinegar.
Hibiscuwit Belgian Wheat by Red Brick Brewing Co is one of the best flavored witbiers I’ve ever enjoyed with only 5% ABV I wish I had bought more for this Summer weekend. This amazing witbier pours a beautiful apricot color with the perfect amount of carbonation for the style with a very smooth fruity and tart taste common to hibiscus brew teas. If you love hibiscus flavored teas and quality ales then I would recommend this beer to you but if you are a hop head and don’t usually drink witbiers then you should probably stick to your bitter beer.
