Filter and Bottle Red Wine – Plus how not to spray red wine everywhere!
Using a low cost Vinbrite Mark III filter with a minor modification does a great job for affordable wine filtering. I also show why you should always pay attention as I spray red wine all over white bricks, the floor and a wall. PBW does an amazing job at removing the red wine to avoid major stains and kept my wife from getting upset about the mess I made. I also show why what corking equipment you buy really matters when trying to cork wine bottles. Red Wine California Merlot aged on medium toasted American Oak which tastes amazing. Also knowing I only paid about $3.33 a bottle for this stuff plus my hard work makes the wine taste even better.
Citrus Rye IPA, Grain to Glass – Part 2 of 2
Extremely citrus forward Citrus Rye IPA without any citrus added to the brew, as all of the citrus came from the hops and yeasts used. I took an old Red Rye IPA recipe that I had brewed before and modified it using ingredients from beer kits I bought during the holidays. Just remember if you buy a beer kit you can always just use the parts to make your own recipes.
Imperial Citrus A38 (only yeast I planned on using) Sadly the fermentation staled so I added on the 6th day: Imperial Barbarian A04 yeast On the 7th day I added: Bootleg Biology – Funk Weapon #3 which within 24 hours fermentation started up again.

Altbier – Grain to Glass – Grainfather nightmare brew day
Altbier brew day grain to glass! Sadly this became the nightmare brew day with 2 Grainfathers that simply had multiple issues from scorching at extremely low temps and leaking pump (never leaked before). Why I will never use a Grainfather again and have already purchased the new Anvil all-in-one brew system. German Altbier is a very under represented beer that is an amazingly well balanced beer with a nice malty backbone and moderate hop flavor and aromas.
I love home brewing but the stress I’ve had with the 2 Grainfathers over the years just simply is unacceptable and I’ve decided to move on to simpler designs that have less issues due to technical difficulties. I don’t feel the Anvil is as refined or feature rich but it works and the low density heating system appears to be the new feature that all electric all-in-one systems will most likely be moving to in the near future. Plus the ability to move from 120 to 220 with a simple switch is awesome!
